In 1967, in a small countryside village in upper Bavaria, my late mother, the drummer Anny de Martin, founded the band „THE GIRLS“. In the early 70ies, this band, consisting of four young ladies from Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland, played monthly engagements in clubs and dance halls around Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland and Austria.

THE GIRLS became the first ever documented all-women-rockband in Germany.

On the eve of the 70ies Krautrock-Movement in Germany, they played some very unique style of Rock, appearing surprisingly progressiv, even for today‘s ears: tricky grooves mixed with walls of sound and weird singing wih kryptic lyrics. They performed in stylish outfits tha ranged somewhere between Spanish Torero and Clockwork Orange.

Die Girls recorded one demo for promotion purposes and released one single.

My mother was -as one of Germany‘s first lady-drummers- deeply involved in developing that distinguished groove that later had been established by famous male drummers of the scene as „Motorik“. Like this and unknown until today, the music of „THE GIRLS“ became of certain importance to the emerging Krautrock-movement, such as the early Kraftwerk.

After the passing away of my mother, he entire documentation of „THE GIRLS“ were turned over to me. Besides countless photos, articles, posters etc., I as well inherited parts of the original equipment, original compositions and original recorded music.

How their music really sounded like, I will present to the public in 2018, through a very unusual re-enactment of my mother‘s very unusual band and its very unusual musical treasure, that she passed on to me, in order to re-release it one day. After many years of contemplation, hesitation and preparation, this day will finally come in 2018!
